Weddings keep us busy year round in Las Vegas, but they are not our only focus. We also have a fully functioning “daily” side to our shop. Our design team works full time at creating gorgeous flower arrangements for birthdays, anniversaries, funerals get well soon and any occasion that you can think of. Our busiest time of year is of course- Valentines Day, or as we refer to it. “V DAY!” Our coolers fill up with red white and pink flowers of all kinds, especially roses. We work around the clock creating designs for hundreds of customers that allowed us to be a part of their celebration of love.
If you are one of those people that are looking forward to a Hallmark card, a box of chocolates and some red roses- then this post is not for you. Even our happily married staff members are jumping on board the latest trend in holidays- Anti-Valentines, or S.A.D. (Singles Awareness Day)
There are so many different ways to celebrate February 14th, even for those in a relationship. Here are just a few ideas:
Celebrate Galentines Day with your BFF’s! That can mean Girl power mopvie night or bar hoping like the good ole days. Check out Pop Sugar for some cute ideas.
Throw an Anti-Valentines party! Pinterest is filled with some great ideas for fun on Feb. 14th. You can either go the “Love Stinks!” route, or “Celebrate the love of Friendship”. Either way sounds great to me!
If you want to celebrate the fact that your not trying to catch a partner at the moment you can showcase high-carb, high-fat, deeply fried goodies; or embrace the sadness in S.A.D. and serve dark yet funny snacks like the ones featured below.
The world wide webernet is filled with tantalizing cocktail recipes, but here are some of my fave’s.
The “Stupid Cupid”
- 2 ounces gin
- juice of 1/2 a lemon
- 1/2 ounce lime cordial
- dash grenadine
- dash bitters
- salt for rim
- raspberries & mint leaf to garnish
Combine gin, lemon juice, lime cordial, grenadine & bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with crushed ice. Feel free to crush the ice with a hammer, a bat, a stiletto heel or anything else that comes to mind. Shake vigorously. It is especially effective if you think about how much you’d like to shake your ex or Cupid or the cutesy couple down the hall that are always mooning over each other. Strain into a cocktail glass that is rimmed with salt and garnish with raspberries & a mint leaf.
This next one is super easy:
“Valentine’s Day on the Rocks”
- 1 ½ oz. Cherry vodka (We used Three-O Cherry Vodka)
- 4 oz. Ginger ale
- Splash of Grenadine
- 1 Cherry
Mix ingredients in a glass filled with ice and garnish with a cherry.
Personally I would go with anything but red, white and pink. But there are some cute ideas on how to alter regular Valentines day decor for a S.A.D. party. Essentially just draw a big black “X” through any traditional decor. Check out some of these images for ideas…
Who doesn’t love a drinking game?!?! You can make up your own, like pick a romantic movie and drink every time you and your friends are nauseated by the ridiculous romance. Or here’s a more specific one for the 2014 movie Valentines Day.
Or just play the always enjoyable Cards Against Humanity.
If you don’t feel like throwing a party of your own, check out local hot spots. Restaurants usually offer special dinners for couples but bars have been getting on the anti valentines band wagon in recent years throwing their own party’s to attract the fun and single crowd.
No matter what your relationship status-
have fun and celebrate life!
